Retail in Real Time
My friends Chris Walton and Anne Mezzenga broke this down on their latest Omni Talk Fast Five podcast (starting at the 14:30 mark) and itโs worth a listen. Iโll link to the podcast in the comments.
Iโve experienced the impact directly:
โข Limited to no congestion at entry or exit
โข Open, fully staffed registers that kept lines moving
โข Faster overall trips
This visit clocked in at 18 minutes from the time I left my car to when I was pulling out of the parking lot. I also noticed more shoppers with smaller baskets, a sign of fewer bulk stock-ups and more frequent trips.
For other retailers, the lesson is valuable. Trip efficiency matters. A smoother experience can turn a chore into a routine stop, driving frequency and loyalty without adding square footage or headcount.
Another edition of my ๐๐ฆ๐ต๐ข๐ช๐ญ ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ series, connecting whatโs happening in stores today to broader takeaways.
โก๏ธ How are you seeing retailers rethink efficiency? How do we think through things from the customerโs perspective?
